Canon's exclusive AIM (Advanced Integrated Multi-Point control) system Canon's exclusive AIM system links 3-point AF to multi-zone metering for available light and flash. An abbreviation for "Advanced Integrated Multi-point Control System," AIM is Canon's original multi-point autofocusing and metering system which links evaluative metering, partial metering and flash metering to the active focusing point. It enables the user to concentrate on composition and take better pictures more easily without having to first place the subject at the center for AF lock and then recomposing. The evaluative metering system assumes that the subject is covered by the focusing point which achieved focus. The correct exposure is then calculated by comparing the brightness around the active focusing point to the rest of the scene. When flash is used, the flash exposure is weighted on the subject (identified by the active focusing point), thus obtaining a correct exposure without being adversely affected by any reflective background.
